Coat:
Labradoodles appear with many different types of coats, but generally three types of coat are desired: hair, wool and fleece.
Colors:
Most colors Poodles come in include: white, gold, brown and black.
Personality:
Labradoodles are extremely friendly, sweet, and intuitive dogs. They can be clown-like at times and retain a childlike playfulness for most of their lives. Their intelligence and resolve make them wonderful pets as well as assistance dogs for the blind. Labradoodles are energetic and are excellent companions for an active home.
At home:
Because of their activity level, Labradoodles tend to do better with more space, but they can adjust to apartment living if given enough exercise. Labradoodles with wool coats are practically nonshedding and are therefore best for allergy sufferers. A securely fenced yard is necessary to let them stretch their legs and get in some outdoor playtime. They are notorious diggers and so shouldn't be left outside alone for too long. Labradoodles adore water and are ready to jump in a pool or pond at a moment's notice.
Recommended activities:
Although not eligible for AKC activities, some other clubs do allow mixed breeds to participate. A Labradoodle can excel at just about any activity including agility, obedience, flyball, rally, therapy, canine freestyle, and flying disc.
Exercise:
Labradoodles are energetic dogs who need up to two hours of exercise a day. They are adept swimmers and will readily join their owners for any physical activity, including jogging and walking.
Feeding:
The high-energy Labradoodle needs a high-quality, age-appropriate diet.
Training:
Labradoodles are very easy to train. They combine the Poodle's intelligence with the Labrador's eager-to-please attitude. They learn quickly, and owners should be prepared to come up with fun training techniques to keep these dogs mentally stimulated.
Compatibility:
Labradoodles tend to get along well with children and other pets as long as they are properly socialized.
Health:
Labradoodles can live up to 17 years. Health problems may include hip dysplasia and progressive retinal atrophy (PRA).
Grooming blurb:
Labradoodles should be brushed regularly to prevent matting. The fleece and wool coats are the easiest to care for, with only weekly brushings and two clippings a year needed to keep them in shape. Labradoodles with a hair-like coat need more regular brushing to prevent matting.
