Coat:
Flat or wavy, of moderate length, with some fringing on the ears, legs and underside.
Colors:
Orange and white and liver and white.
Personality:
Easy to handle and train, the Brittany is extremely companionable. This happy and alert dog is always ready for some fun and frolic. He is soft hearted and sensitive at home and an intense and tireless hunter in the field. He is best behaved when his family takes him out often.
At home:
Brittanys can do well in many different environments as long as they're given extensive exercise. A fenced yard is a must for this curious breed. They need companionship and do not do well when left alone for long periods.
Recommended activities:
The Brittany's success in multiple sports is proven, with titles in the show ring, hunting field, agility, obedience, and much more.
Exercise:
The Brittany needs lots of exercise and should be taken out for several vigorous sessions a day. He's a joy to take for walks in the park because he listens and pays attention to where his owner is while at the same time actively searching out a scent.
Feeding:
The active, athletic Brittany requires a high-quality, well-balanced diet to keep his body in top shape.
Training:
Brittany is an intelligent dog who is easy to train. He will wither under harsh training conditions, but let him learn from someone who's patient and uses praise, and he will blossom into a dog who will do anything for you.
Compatibility:
Brittanys get along well with children and other dogs, especially other Brittanys. They can get along well with other pets if socialized properly.
Health:
The average life expectancy of the Brittany is 10 to 12 years. Breed health concerns may include hip dysplasia and seizures, although neither is prevalent in the breed.
Grooming blurb:
The fine, medium-length hair of the Brittany is relatively easy to keep clean. It does need regular brushing to look its best and to keep him comfortable, and the fringing on his body should also be brushed and kept clean.
