Understanding Aggressive Behavior

If your cat displays aggression toward another cat, it's usually due to territorial issues. Unless two cats are litter mates or "siblings" from the time they're very young kittens, it will take them some time to adjust to one another. If your cat displays aggression toward you or another person, she's probably fearful, confused or feeling threatened. The best way to avoid the behavior is to recognize the signs that your cat gives you. Crouching, flattening of the ears against the head, hissing or spitting, and your cat's hair standing up are all signs that she's feeling uneasy and may lash out. Rather than trying to soothe or comfort the cat, it's best to leave her alone to calm down by herself. When she begins eating, playing or showing affection, you'll know the storm has passed and she's feeling good again.
