When it comes to the upcoming presidential election, Pet Parents would prefer Republican candidate John McCain to be the nation's top dog.
According to an Associated Press-Yahoo News poll, 42 percent of pet owners or Pet Parents polled preferred McCain as president while 37 percent favored Democratic candidate Barack Obama. Dog owners were more loyal to McCain at 43 percent compared to the 34 percent that supported Obama. Cat owners were a bit more indifferent with 41 percent of the votes going to McCain and 38 percent to Obama, according to poll results.
Two pet owners quoted in a report by the Associated Press said they think pet owners are "more compassionate" and that pet ownership shows candidates are "responsible."
McCain is Pet Parent to an English Springer Spaniel named Sam, a mixed-breed pup named Coco, a cat named Oreo, a ferret, parakeets, turtles and fish, according to the report. Obama is not currently a Pet Parent, but has said in media reports that he will adopt a dog for his daughters after the election.
