It's all about daytime play and overnight stays.

Day or night, we're there for your pet
You're not the only one who gets vacations. For those times when you need to be away from your friend, we have two great options: PetSmart PetsHotel® and Doggie Day Camp.

A day of play: Doggie Day Camp
PetSmart Doggie Day Camp is a safe, fun place for your pooch to play the hours away with our caring staff and other dog friends who've been screened for group play. So for those days when work calls you away, or just when your dog needs to socialize or play, you can feel great about leaving him in our hands. A day at Doggie Day Camp is ideal for burning off that extra doggy energy. And when you pick him up, his wagging tail will tell the happy tale of his play day.

The right care when you're away
For those times when you must leave your pet, the question is to board or not to board.

At-home or a home away from home
Choices for your dog come down to leaving him home alone for short periods, hiring a sitter or giving him a night out. Some pets think a stay away with other dogs is a fun excursion. Others are happiest at home, surrounded by familiar sights and smells. Knowing your pet is the key to making the right choice. If he gets into mischief while you're away or keeps the neighbors awake with all-night cries, a stay away with caring hosts is a good idea. If you're uncertain how he'll react, we invite you to bring your pal by PetSmart PetsHotel for a preliminary visit.

Ease the angst
Whichever you choose, your dog (and you) may experience some separation anxiety. To help calm your canine, here are some expert at-home recommendations:

  • Give him a special treat when you leave the house, something he never gets when you're together. That way, your dogs may come to look forward to the treat more than he worries about you saying good-bye.
  • Make suitcases fun. Some dogs get really upset when they see the suitcases come out. To ease the anxiety, occasionally take luggage out of the closest even when you're not leaving.
  • Leave a light on, or turn on the TV or radio for comforting sights and sounds.
  • Comfort him with a crate. Crates are like doggie dens. Dogs get in and realize everything's ok. If your pet isn't already crate trained, talk to a PetSmart associate or read New pet know how: dog crate training for eight steps to a great crate experience.
  • If you choose to board at PetSmart PetsHotel, most dogs will benefit from bringing familiar items along. A special toy, their blanket, or one of our slippers will comfort them and ease the anxiety.
