Humane Society Offers Online Help Finding Pet-Friendly Housing
PetSmart - Megan Dinchak / Pets.com
According to the National Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the most common reasons pet owners give when they surrender their pets to animal shelters are "moving" and "landlord won't allow." And the media is reporting more pets are being relinquished to shelters due to an increase in home foreclosures. If you or someone you know is considering surrendering a pet because pet-friendly housing is not available, here’s good news: with planning and the right know-how, pet-friendly housing can be found in virtually any area of the country.
Six years the HSUS created the Pets for Life™ campaign to open up more rental housing for pets. This campaign provides online resources to help pet owners find pet-friendly rental housing. It also provides the resources housing managers need to implement such policies in their own communities.
The campaign's goal is to keep pets at home rather than ending up in a shelter.
