Common Kitty Quirks
PetSmart -
But, there are some common cat behaviors that many Pet Parents find troublesome, including:
Inappropriate elimination - there are a few common causes for going to the bathroom outside the litter box. Either the box isn't clean enough for her, it's not the type of litter she likes, or the box is in the wrong place. Try keeping the box cleaner, offering an additional box in another location, switching litter or gradually moving the box. If none of these things solve the problem, talk with your vet about a possible health issue. Review the article "Litter Box Lowdown" for additional litter box training tips.
Urine spraying - this is a natural way for cats to mark their territory, and is more common in un-neutered male cats. Getting a male cat neutered usually solves the problem. But sometimes a cat will mark if there are changes in the environment, including bringing a new cat in. In these cases, clean the marked areas with an enzyme cleaner that removes the odor so cats won't re-mark the area.
Late night or early morning vocalizing - because cats are nocturnal, they'll often be up in the middle of the night or very early in the morning. Sometimes they're looking to be fed, often they just want your company or to play. In any case, the best way to respond is no response at all. It will probably take awhile, but eventually your cat will get tired of being ignored and will play quietly on her own while you're fast asleep.
