Adoption know how: hygiene and your dog
PetSmart -
Grooming your dog for good health
Proper grooming is essential to your dog's health and well-being. Not only does grooming allow you to check for any potential health problems, it gives you an opportunity to spend some "quality" time bonding with your dog.

Coat
Touch develops the strongest bond between dogs and their Pet Parents. Both you and your dog will enjoy this contact more if his coat is clean and healthy, so daily brushing and frequent bathing - whether at home or at a PetSmart Grooming Salon - are a must for maintaining a healthy relationship with your dog. There are proper ways to comb, brush and bathe your dog, based upon coat type, breed type and size. Consult your PetSmart Certified PetStylist for the best approach, or pick up a grooming book to help you establish an effective, enjoyable routine.
Ears
Dogs, especially those with long, floppy ears, may require regular ear cleanings with a special pet eat cleaning solution that you can obtain from PetSmart. Check your dog's ears regularly and watch for the most common signs that an infection has developed: redness, persistent itchiness, a bad smell in the ear or heavy wax buildup. If any of these symptoms occur, take your dog to the veterinarian for a check-up.
Eyes
A healthy dog's eyes are clear and free of discharge. If his eyes appear red, swollen or gummy, consult your veterinarian. Some breeds are prone to eye problems and should have their eyes gently cleaned with a damp cotton ball at regular intervals.
Teeth and Nails
Regular tooth brushing keeps your dog from developing "doggy breath" and keeps his gums healthy. A nail trim can keep you from getting scratched during play, and also prevents your dog from injuring himself when he has an itch!
