About the Cockapoo

Description: The Cockapoo originated in the USA in the 1960s. The breed is a cross between the American Cocker Spaniel and the Miniature Poodle. The general shape of the Cockapoo, in particular its ears, mostly resembles the Cocker Spaniel, but the coat and face are usually more reminiscent of the Poodle.
Weight:
* Teacup Toy - under 6 pounds (3 kg) grown weight
* Toy - under 12 pounds (5 kg)
* Miniature/Mini - 13 to 18 pounds (5.5 - 8 kg)
* Maxi - over 19 pounds (9 kg)
Height: 14 - 15 inches (35-38 cm)
Colors: Cockapoos come in various colors including white, cream, tan and combinations of these colors.
Coat: Cockapoos are low shedding but still require a lot of grooming.
Temperament: Sweet and loyal, Cockapoos are known for being easy to train, non-destructive, patient and eager to please. Since Cockapoos gleans positive qualities from both the cocker spaniel and the Poodle, they are indeed of very pleasent temperament. The Cockapoo is good with children and gets along well with other dogs.
Health Concerns: In general, the Cockapoo's is quite hearty with a lower rate of genetic defects than the Poodle and the Cocker Spaniel. The Cockapoo has a lower rate of skin problems than experienced by the Cocker Spaniel.
Life Expectancy: 13 - 15 years.
Living Environment: Cockapoos can live in apartments or get plenty of exercise from a small yard. This breed does better in colder climates.
