I applied frontline to my rat terrier and for a few days now he has been very lethargic and not acting like his normal, playful self. He has been to the doctor and she said that nothing appears to be wrong but has never heard of any dog reacting like this to frontline. Has anyone experienced this?

Frontline is the 2nd most toxic and you can be sure your vet knows this! There's $$ in sick pets...Try Advantage (Bayer Company)...it works better and isn't as dangerous. First, bathe your dogs in Dawn dish detergent to help dilute the frontline...I hope it isn't too late. Read all of my blogs....I've been researching for 8 months!

Contact the EPA...Frontline is the 2nd most toxic flea treatment out there...144,000 complaints in 2008 and 1200 'reported' deaths...It is highly toxic and a big scam. While you're at it, google dangers of rabies shots...another danger to your cats and big business for the vet and big pharma. Rabies shots last 3-7 years and the vets are over-immunizing pets, creating auto-immune diseases and death! My dog died 7 months ago from Frontline and I am still heart-broken!Warn everyone!!...then chew out your vet!

Change to Advantage..it is made by the Bayer Company...Frontline is the 2nd most toxic flea treatment and the vets are selling it like crazy and making a big bundle on sick pets and kickbacks...Google: dangers of Frontline Plus...also google: dangers of rabies shots...that is another danger to your pet....

Frontline KILLED my lhasa apso...it is the second most toxic of all the spot on flea treatments according to the EPA....try Advantage, but bathe your dog in Dawn dish detergent to help dilute the Frontline, but it may be too late. Check to see if your dog isn't anemic (pale gums, ears, etc)....if so, the white cells are attacking the red cells....

The way Frontline works is that it attacks the neurological system of the fleas...it also attacks the dog's neurological system...even though the vets will swear it's not systemic...My beloved Buffy staggered during the 7 weeks on and off before we lost her for good to Frontline. I wish all of you dog lovers would contact Erin Brockovich's web site and beg her to help us sue the Merial Company.

If you read my post about my beloved Lhasa Apso, Buffy...you will know that Frontline KILLED my dog. It has been over 7 months and I still cry daily. Frontline is the #2 most toxic of all the spot-ons flea treatments. I think it's a big scam and the vets are making a bundle. Change to Advantage or use a natural flea treatment. Also, wash your dog with Dawn dish detergent to dilute the Frontline...it may be too late...try it anyway....

I have a lab girl who gets sick every month when frontline is applied. I have discussed this with the vet and she says that vomiting and lethargy are not side affects from Frontline....3 months off Frontline and no sick dog....you can draw your own conclusion.

My beloved Lhasa Apso died from Frontline poisoning this past July. I have done extensive research and have talked to numerous pet owners who had horrible experiences with this product. I spent over $2,000 trying to help my dog and I am still heartbroken 6 months later. Do NOT use this product...Google: dangers of Frontline Plus and also google: dangers of rabies shots!! That is another scam! The vets are repeating what the pharmaceutical reps tell them, plus there is big $ in sick animals. Frontline creates an autoimmune blood disorder (CAHA) which eventually destroys organs. It IS systemic....Beware!!

I've never used Frontline, but I've never had problems with Advantage products. But then I just read the box and the Frontline says "...allergic or neurological side effects." Now I can't remember seeing "neurological effects" on Advantage stuff. But I can't find anything about what "neurological effects" they are referring too. My boyfriend's childhood dog is a vet's rubrics cube and I can't find out if it has anything to do with longtime Frontline application... If this product is why that poor dog is staggering around like a cat dying of antifreeze poisoning, I'd like to know.

I'm sorry to hear that, emmadub. I hope that you've taked your dog to the vet.

The EPA has some guidelines to help protect against fleas and ticks: http://www.epa.gov/pesticides/factsheets/flea-tick.htm.

Five days after Frontline, my dog too has been lethargic, throwing up, peeing on the floor, shaking and will now hardly eat. I am also wondering what to do in the future as the fleas were driving him crazy. Poor pup! It seems Frontline is not as safe as they claim.

We have been having trouble with fleas. Our German Bloodlabsky (mutt!) is allergic to the bites. I gave him Vector on September 2 and it did nothing. I gave him a bath a week later and washed out at least 20 fleas.

He scratched like crazy for a month and then I gave him Frontline on Saturday. By Sat. night he was vomiting and absolutely miserable. By Sunday am he was even vomiting water. By last night (Sunday pm) he was starting to feel a little better. Today he's keeping stuff down but still isn't quite himself yet.

Good news, the fleas are gone. Bad news, his reactions to Frontline have gotten worse and now I don't think I can use it on him again. When the vet says that Frontline shouldn't cause that reaction, I'm not buying it!

Yes. My cat seemed near death from frontline. The first 24 hours he was just lethargic, and in the next 24 hours he was unresponsive. I took him to the vet who said it was highly doubtful it was the frontline. We called poison control who ssured me it could not have been from frontline, but I saw it all happen, I know it was. 350 bucks worth of tests later showed him to be in otherwise perfect health. His sister had a minor reaction last month and I opted not to give it to her. Boy was I glad!

I have met others whose cats have also had reactions. Frontline's claim that it is so safe and virtually impossible for them to have a serious reaction seems incorrect. PS I have six cats and right now, three of them have thinned hair at the site of Frontline's application.

I too have noticed lethargy in one of my furkids, and just recently realized that it has to be the Frontline. I have seen no side effects in my shep/samy mix. My border collie/pin mix gets lethargic the day of the application. She vomited the day after the app, and has urinated on the floor the last two days while I was at work. The first two symptoms happened the last time, but I chalked it up to nervousness (we had just gotten home from a long car trip). I believe the urination is the result of her wanting to drink a lot of water after the application (her thirst is insatiable). I am scared silly (thinking of a kidney issue?!?) and plan to call the vet in the morning. I will not be reapplying the Frontline but, unfortunately, she has an allergic reaction to flea bites and needs to be on some type of medication . . .

The EPA reported in May 2009 an increase in complaints of adverse reactions to spot-on flea & tick products. There's a site about this at their website: www.epa.gov/pesticides/health/flea-tick-control.html.

Hope your baby is ok!
