Hi Everyone,
I`m having a real problem with my 3 yr old Jack Russell/Rat Terrier mix Katie. For some reason she has turned very aggressive to the point of biting me. She refuses to leave her crate and if myself or my husband even looks her way, she growls and snarls at us. I literally had to dump her out of that crate to get her to go outside this morning and ended getting bit twice in the process of taking her outside and bringing her back in. I`ve had her to the vet and he found nothing physically wrong with her. I`m at my wits end with her and for the life of me can`t figure out what is wrong.
Can anyone give me some suggestions on what might be happening? If she keeps this up, I`m not going to have any choice but to get rid of her so she doesn`t bite anyone else.

Thanks,
Diane

This started Saturday night when we came home from bowling league. She was fine that day and we put her in her crate just like we always do when we leave. Nothing has changed around the house and she was fine at the Vet`s office. I have noticed that after I get her out of the crate, she calms down and jumps in my lap just like shes always done. Actually she is in my lap, laying on my arm right now which makes typing interesting..lol
I think you`re right about her being frightened of something, I just can`t figure out what it is yet. About the only thing I can think of, is that she`s heard a noise while we were gone and its scared her.

When did this start? Has anything changed around the house..... new people, furniture, pregnancy, health, anything?? How did she behave at the vet's? Is she being nasty with everyone or just you and your husband? Something has happened to cause this and you just have to get to the bottom of it. If you get "rid" of her she will be put to sleep because she's a biter. In the meantime, I suggest you ignore her. Open the crate and then just walk away. If she comes out on her own don't look at her, just open the door and let her out. Back off of the confrontation and see what happens. You might try sitting on the floor with your back to the crate and see if she comes out. Don't touch or look at her and try to remain very calm. It seems she's frightened of something and is defending herself. Try to do some detective work and see if you can figure out what might have happened. Good luck.

Not sure. We just brought her home this Friday, 07-03-09. She seems a little bit shy, but is warming up to us. She is pretty tough though …Read more »
