Getting Bruno's Stomach Pumped
November 11, 2009
Sometimes I think my dogs are the only things keeping our veterinary clinic in business. Last week Bruno had a destructive streak and ate: - 2 pairs of my shoes - A Halloween wig - An Ace bandage By Friday morning he was feeling awful. He refused food and treats, and didn't seem to know where he was. I immediately took him into the vet who began …Read more »
Are My Dogs Normal?
October 30, 2009
If anyone out there has dealt with any of these issues, please let me know: 1. Bruno systematically chews the bark off our trees. I don't know if it tastes good, he's bored, or simply loves chewing (probably all three). He hasn't had any reaction yet, so do I assume it's safe? 2. Both dogs lick their paws a lot, mainly around their …Read more »
Guilty Pet Parent
October 23, 2009
Last weekend I boarded the dogs for the first time, hello separation anxiety (for me, not them). I took them to the closest PetsHotel to my house, and had them put together in an atrium room. I have to say that even though I knew they'd be just fine, and would probably enjoy being at "camp," I felt terribly guilty as if I'd abandoned them.
Dog-related injuries
October 13, 2009
Everyone’s got their quirks, right. This week we discovered one of Bruno’s that had previously remained dormant. We realized that any time Bruno hears someone make a blowing noise, e.g. blowing out a candle, blowing dust off a surface, etc) he goes completely ballistic.
My dog stinks.
October 5, 2009
I've always taken it upon myself to gives my dogs baths myself. It's not the easiest task, but fortunately, both of them are pretty easy going about the whole process. While no one likes the smell of wet dog, I've noticed that Bruno smells really sweet after a bath, while Molly continues to stink. It's weird - she smells terrible the …Read more »
Do Dogs Pee for Attention?
September 23, 2009
We've been dealing with Bruno's broken leg for a few weeks now, and he continues to require a lot of our time. In addition, the dogs have been kept separate most of the time since he has to be in a crate and taken outside alone (no rough housing). I think we've inadvertently been ignoring Molly in the process. She's been as …Read more »
My dog at my shoes. And socks. And toilet brush.
September 15, 2009
Molly ate her first pair of sandals the week we adopted her. We were annoyed, but brushed it off as our own carelessness for leaving them in her reach. We went several months without incident but now she's on the prowl once again. She ate four pairs of sandals last week! She's picky, too, only leather flip flops have fallen victim to …Read more »
My Dog Broke his Own Leg
September 8, 2009
When I got home from work last Thursday, Bruno was casually hopping around on three legs. At first, I hoped that maybe he'd just stepped on a thorn, or broken a nail, but when I got closer I could tell he was in a great deal of pain. I heaved his 55 pounds of puppiness into the car and headed to …Read more »
Dog Puddling
July 27, 2009
Bruno has a new habit. He has decided it's a good use of his time to paw all of the water in his bowl out onto the floor. I don't know why he does this, or what's so fun about it, but I spent the better part of my weekend cleaning up his floods. I did go out and buy him a doggy …Read more »
Dog Breath
July 20, 2009
This weekend I figured that I'd procrastinated long enough, and purchased tooth brushes and toothpaste for the dogs. I've never been especially keen on brushing dogs' teeth. I've had the misconception that it's just for poodles or little white dogs, but have recently learned that it's important for everybody.
