Going to Camp Niko
July 24, 2009
One of the hardest things to do as a puppy mama is go on vacation and leaving your baby behind. I can't even begin to imagine what it would feel like to leave a human baby with a sitter - I can barely handle the dog thing. I'm lucky to have such great pet-loving people in my life so Copley doesn't have to stay at …Read more »
Caught in a Dusty Rainstorm
July 22, 2009
One of the things you learn when you move from the East Coast to the Desert is that you absolutely have no idea what a real storm is. Sure, growing up we had the occasional Northeast Hurricane or Winter Snowstorm. But, the weatherman gives you days to prepare. Not here in Arizona, you are lucky if you get a 30 second warning …Read more »
Boy Meets Girl, Girl Meets Dog, Parrot...Snake
July 22, 2009
If two dogs are easier than one and three dogs equal anarchy, what will life with three dogs, one cat, a bilingual parrot and a snake mean for me? That’s the unfamiliar, sometimes scary question I find myself pondering as I prepare to get married. Yes, fellow brides to be, you may be laboring over white or cream, where to …Read more »
Petiquette
July 21, 2009
There’s a lot to be said about how to behave with your pet, or someone else’s. Charlotte Reed has a book, Miss Fido Manners Complete Book of Dog Etiquette for how to behave with pets, but I’m going to take a stab at outlining a more few of the rules we, as pet parents should abide by, as well as …Read more »
Keeping cool in the pool
July 21, 2009
In light of our recent day at the beach, I thought it was time for the dogs to have their first swimming lesson. And what better place than the backyard pool? To me, the most important part of the lesson was to teach them how to get out of the pool in case they ever accidentally fell in. For safety, …Read more »
Learning to Hula Hoop...?
July 20, 2009
Because it is so hot here in Arizona, tonight is the last night of Agility classes until the Fall. And, with the increasing temperatures we've been avoiding out frisbee sessions as well. I'm concerned about keeping Copley in top notch shape so we can quickly get back to competiton in the fall. To keep her mind active and continue to build …Read more »
Dog Breath
July 20, 2009
This weekend I figured that I'd procrastinated long enough, and purchased tooth brushes and toothpaste for the dogs. I've never been especially keen on brushing dogs' teeth. I've had the misconception that it's just for poodles or little white dogs, but have recently learned that it's important for everybody.
Don’t Bite The Hand That Feeds You
July 17, 2009
How many times have you been around a puppy and sure enough they bite you (because they are playing) with those pin sharp teeth? Ouch! Sometimes we tell them “No bite!” and there are a number of other ways that people try to teach their pups not to bite. They learn a hand in the mouth is bad.
Can a Dog Jog? Help!
July 16, 2009
I've recently started running more often, and would love to be able to kill two birds with one stone, and exercise the dogs while I run. Since I live in Phoenix, I wouldn't dream of doing this in the summer, but in the winter when it's gorgeous out, this could be a good plan. When I tire myself out, I generally just collapse, but dogs seem …Read more »
