Molly the Vampire Slayer

The Slayer

Molly's Stake

December 4, 2009 -

Pet:

It’s not every day you come downstairs to find your dog crafting a weapon. And yet, apparently, this is my life.

I think I’ve mentioned that Molly is an aggressive chewer. Gone are the days of getting her stuffed loveys to skip around the room with. Recently I bought her a tough canvas tug toy and she had it cut up in literally minutes. With scissor-like teeth and stubborn focus, she annihilates anything non-Kong immediately.

So, a few months ago we bought Molly a Nylabone. She’s been living on Kongs alone and we wanted to get her something not red or rubbery (sorry, Kong, we love you!) Her Nylabone is pretty straight-forward, bone-shaped, white, and tough.

Apparently, though, Molly has extracurricular activities. Like nighttime demon stalking, perhaps? You see, she has expertly—and I’m not exaggerating when I say expertly—fashioned her Nylabone into what can only be described as a stake. I included a picture because who could believe Molly (or any doggie) has done such a thing.

It is arrowhead sharp and precise. Symmetrical. We can only look at it with horror... or is it pride? Maybe our little Molly is out fighting evil while we quietly slumber. Maybe, just maybe, she’s making the world a safer place to be.

Against my protestations, my fiancé took her Nylabone away and made a quick modification: he sawed off the sharp tip. He gave it back to the deeply offended Molly, who seemed to snatch it away in irritation. Her heroism thwarted.

But, never fear, I found her last night, carefully carving away again, and it’s already shaping into dagger form. Beware, vamps, Molly’s a-comin’.
