Gonna eat worms
November 20, 2009 -
When I was little, I loved worms. I was fascinated with them. I’m learning that my interest definitely waned in childhood and would have been limited to earthworms and common worms (a quick perusal on Google to get the name of them grossed me out quickly so that’s what you get, sorry).
Now that I have two fire-bellied toads, I have to deal with worms on a regularly basis, and not the “cuter” version from my remembered more curious days. But I’ve been confused about what kind of worms. First I read that they like waxworms (which are disgusting) but then I found out that those are mostly fat in content and should be treated more like dessert. Who knew. I was told that mealworms are more nutritious for them, but are best avoided because they have a tough exoskeleton.
So I came to a stalemate since that’s all I had been told to feed. Doing some quick, tentative searches online, I see that I can again resurrect the earthworm’s place in my life. I look at Scorch and Firefly and wonder how they can eat an earthworm…
Maybe I don’t wanna know.
I should perhaps mention: these toads need to eat other things, too. Like crickets (ugh). But I just learned they like small feeder fish. I'd love to see them fishing, so I might get those, too.
