With Fall Comes Style

I always love this time of year. One, it's just fun to think about fall when it's nasty hot outside. But with fall comes things like crunchy leaves (though not here, *sigh*); the fabulous textures and colors of fall fashion and (hello!)  - shoes - and the anticipated Halloween line-up of costumes for pets.

Every now and then in my career, I find myself thinking "only at PetSmart." It's inevitable that you get those moments where you realize you're discussing the intricacies of pet costumes and that your job is kinda unique. Well, today was one of those days that I kick myself and think "is this really my job?"; I slid into my office to hear that my colleagues are doing a photo shoot with some of our upcoming Halloween apparel and, of course, I had to sneak down and take a look.

My favorite part about photo shoots with pets is that surreal quality of having a dog or cat amongst photographic equipment, like we're on some set for Vogue. Ok, maybe not Vogue (after all ,we're not talking fall fashions - yet-  baby, just Halloween at the moment) but certainly the juxtaposition makes for a fun day.

The two dogs we used this year were just beautiful, two goldens, and honestly, I don't really know how their handler could tell them apart. They were graceful, understanding and seemed to have a romping good time. In-between fittings and their shots, the boys would wrestle each other and cavort around the room. It couldn't have been more obvious they were happy. I've included some behind-the-scenes shots here, but will share with you the final shots when they're ready to go out.

Speaking of fall fashion, our dog fashion expert, Rashell Cooper, is going to Pet Fashion Week being held next month in New York. The show, which includes everything from toys and bedding to fashion, jewelry and accessories - features a designer platform, design awards, and runway shows. Oh my! I'll be sure to scope my way into finding out more so stay tuned.
