pet music

September 20, 2009 -

The last time I was on here was like a month ago. My profile was blocked and I can only figure my username was a trademark or maybe my advise was looking like I was a business. I am not. I have simply done a ton of research to make my puppy and my family survive and thrive during his 1st year+ with me. He is super highly intelligent and energetic. He could have driven me insane or made me broke with classes and training but, instead I learned so much and simply want to share that with others who may benefit. I hope I don't say anything to offend ever and please realize anything I advise is what worked for me and all people and dogs work in different ways thus you should do your own research and proceed with any training under professional supervision. That said, I wanted to talk today about music.
My dog loves to feel calming energies. When we go to bed at night I play a cd designed to make dogs relaxed. It plays tranquil piano music and "dog settling" sounds which he zonks out to almost instantly. During the day he listens to a cd I got at a Minnesota based big box store, they had a big display of ones to choose from, like sounds from the beach or rainforest (not good for storm anxious dogs) they even had meditation ones and salsa (which my dog loves) These cd's allow the street noise to be blocked out and I think that makes my neighbors happy, since my dog is a loud barker. I also like to leave the radio on on some days instead and my dog will like to listen to the talking of public radio or the upbeat rythyms of the spanish station. Some people will leave a little fan on to provide white noise and I only do this when my dog is in his crate. It gives him a little wind which he likes and a little noise which settles him down. I think it is important to know what your dog likes before doing this. I had a cat who would only calm down in the car if Randy Travis was on (I don't care for him but, did play it while traveling cross country to move because it made her happy) I had another dog who liked hip-hop. To each their own, since it is they who have to listen to it all day, it should be something they enjoy and find peace with. I am sure Petsmart must have some cd's available for purchase since the demand is so great for calming our pets while away.
I hope this helps you lead
