Pets for Charity

I was wondering if anyone knew of a charity that gives dogs to people. One maybe that gives a dog to someone with cancer or someone having a rough time. I know a lady with a few dogs to place and I thought giving them to someone who just needs a friend would be a good idea. If anyone knows of a way to do this let me know please!
