A Little Advice on Sunscreen...

July 30, 2009 -
Poor Maya can't be in the sun for more than 5min without getting burned. If I forget the sunscreen before you know it she has a bright red stripe down the middle of her nose, the inside of her left ear is pink and it looks like she borrowed some crazy raspberry colored eyeliner from my 13yr old niece.
I know I need to use a sunscreen that's PABA free, hypoallergenic, preferably H2O proof & has extra UVA protection- I've been doing that for my horses for years - but I've never had a pet with no pigment so close to their eye before. When applying sunscreen, how close is too close? I use a lotion that's supposed to be non-irritating, and it's not like I'm going to squirt it directly into her eye, but I want to give her the most coverage I can without hurting her. We are really active outside and I hate making her stay in when I'm out with my other dog because the day before she got burned around her eye.
