Getting Bruno's Stomach Pumped

November 11, 2009 -

Pet:

Sometimes I think my dogs are the only things keeping our veterinary clinic in business.

Last week Bruno had a destructive streak and ate:
 - 2 pairs of my shoes
 - A Halloween wig
 - An Ace bandage

By Friday morning he was feeling awful. He refused food and treats, and didn't seem to know where he was. I immediately took him into the vet who began a series of xrays after giving him barium. Her hope was that the barium would identify if he had a blockage and where it was.

It took hours for the barium to make its way through his body and stop at a blockage - likely one of my high heels.

Thank goodness it had moved far enough along to avoid needing surgery. Instead we just had to wait for it to pass. Nothing like watching your dog every time he goes to the bathroom to brighten any day...

He seems to have made a full recovery and I'm thankful for our fast acting Banfield Hospital for helping his tummy. You'd think he'd learn not to get into things, but just yesterday I caught him trying to eat a plastic bottle. We're keeping a close eye on him!

Yep, we sell two products that you can feed your dogs that will discourage them from eating their poop. Gross, I know. It's basically a supplement that makes the smell unappealing to them. Can you imagine if people had these types of problems!?

I thought grace was bad. She eats rocks, wood, whatever she can chew on but her big sisters poop is too much. Did you say petsmart has something to help fix this??? She's only 10 months so I need to break her of this now. I'm glad Bruno is ok. They sure can eat stuff cant they?
