Dog Puddling

July 27, 2009 -

Pet:

Bruno has a new habit.

He has decided it's a good use of his time to paw all of the water in his bowl out onto the floor.

I don't know why he does this, or what's so fun about it, but I spent the better part of my weekend cleaning up his floods.

I did go out and buy him a doggy pool, thinking maybe that will curb his desire, so we shall see. In the meantime, does anyone know why dogs do this or how to stop it?!

I know I think they do.
Mini dose it after walks When her feet is HOT!
It may be fun for them but its so not fun for me ( I got like a HUGE mess to clean for like 10 minutes.
she is also sloppy with her food. I feed her wet so she makes the bowl and the floor a huge MESS!!!!!

I have heard dogs have sweat glands on their feet...? So perhaps it does really help them cool off.

My pup shihtzu, Bella, does the same thing. She doesn't stop until all of the water is out of the bowl. I did notice that she only does this when it is super hot so I assume its her way of cooling off.

My german shepherd pup loves to get in water anywhere anytime. She even used to stick her whole head in her water bowl and then shake off the water all over the place. I got her a water fountain that she can't get her paws or head in and that has solved that problem. And she loves it. Now if she would stay out of the water sprinklers and water hose but I guess that's her way to cool off during these "dog" days of summer.

They do it too cool off They do it the most in the summer My chihuahua is 5 pounds and like to dip her paws in water. You should get a pool but only fill it up to the legs height in water if Bruno dose not like that try filling it the whole way.
Best of luck
