Dog Breath
July 20, 2009 -
This weekend I figured that I'd procrastinated long enough, and purchased tooth brushes and toothpaste for the dogs.
I've never been especially keen on brushing dogs' teeth. I've had the misconception that it's just for poodles or little white dogs, but have recently learned that it's important for everybody.
I opted for the finger brushes and peanut butter flavored toothpase (gag). I tried with Bruno first, who sat completely still and honestly seemed to enjoy the process. He didn't mind a bit! Molly on the other hand, looked at me like I had grown a third head.
"Mom WHAT do you think you're doing? No. No. NO. Get away from meeee with that!"
It was quite the struggle to even get her to sit still in the vicinity of the toothbrush, let alone put it in her mouth. After much coaxing and several treats she let me brush for just a few minutes.
Although raising a puppy from 8 weeks is quite the challenge, it's obvious that the work we put in with Bruno when he was a wee little thing paid off. He could care less about having his teeth, tail or feet touched, loves the car and doesn't usually fear anything.
Since we got Molly as an older puppy it's been harder getting her used to these things.
Does anybody have tricks for getting a disgruntled dog to sit through a dental cleaning??
