Dog the Birdie Hunter
July 8, 2009 -
I sometimes wonder why I bother spending a good portion of my paycheck on new toys for the puppies. No matter what brightly colored/squeaking/furry/flying toy I am convinced will entertain them, they seem most content chasing and eating birds or chewing tree branches (and then throwing up on the carpet).
Speaking of birds…over the past few weeks Bruno has been catching birds and bringing them into the house through the doggy door. We can tell when he’s “hunting” by the ear-piercing squawks and eruption of feathers.
We’ve been able to save a few of his victims by distracting him with other treats, but we had our first casualty last weekend. RIP little feathered friend.
It’s pretty amazing that my little guy has the stealth to catch anything. To say he’s uncoordinated is a generous understatement. He’s yet to develop a braking mechanism and is constantly crashing into people, other dogs, furniture…
I guess this goes to show that when it comes to puppies, certain instinctive behaviors will never be won over by Bobos and Kongs.
I hope I'm not the only one with a bird-dog...Does anyone else have entertaining "hunting" stories?

Mini haves brought dead birds in the house and set them it the living room floor and was standing proud about it. Mini haves killed around 20 birds One day she brought a live bird in the house she set it down like she allways dose and it got up and started flying around the house I dont know why dogs are so strange like that.

Growing up I had birds that would hunt dogs. Parakeets are ferocious - Think about that...
