Are My Dogs Normal?

If anyone out there has dealt with any of these issues, please let me know:

1. Bruno systematically chews the bark off our trees. I don't know if it tastes good, he's bored, or simply loves chewing (probably all three). He hasn't had any reaction yet, so do I assume it's safe?

2. Both dogs lick their paws a lot, mainly around their nails on the front feet. The vet said it can be a nervous behavior similar to people biting their nails, but I wondered if there can be another cause?

3. I recently purchased a new doggy bed with cedar filling. I later read that cedar can inhibit a dog's sense of smell. Is is ok to use or should I toss it?
