Bed Hog
July 9, 2009 -
There are a thousand reasons why you shouldn't let your dog sleep with you. But, Copley has a her place right next to me.
I remember the night when I made the decision to let her sleep with me - it feels like yesterday. When she was about 4 months old, we went to Boston to visit my parents for Christmas. It was a really cold night, I was freezing. I think my blood had already started to thin due to the Arizona heat. Copley was snuggled into her travel bag where I could hear her shivering. I'm convinced that I heard teeth chattering. With that, I scooped her up and snuck her under the covers with me. She let out the cutest little sigh of appreciation and swiftly fell asleep.
Since then, she has snuggled right up to me. Some days, I wake up with her head on a pillow, her body tucked neatly under the covers, and she slowly opens her eyes to look at me. But lately, she has taken it upon herself to stretch out. Every night I wake up to my 20lb pup stretched horizontally across the bed, belly up. I end up hugging the side praying that I don't fall off. She's a complete beg hog. Who knew a little dog could take up so much room?
But, who can resist a snuggly little love bug and a big ol' puppy smooch as your morning alarm clock?
I know, I'm a sucker!

I used to be an octopus when I slept. Then I had three boxers. They strategically slept one between my knees and one on either side. Needless to say, now I barely move when I sleep.

I know just what you mean! I love sneaking Molly up to snuggle. She curls up tight against my side and doesn't budge all night.
