Paws, Pedicures and Pink

May 27, 2009 -

Because we lead such busy lives during the week, (pick up girls from Doggie Day Care, race home in rush hour, nightly; marathon training, meeting friends) I'm a junkie for DVR. Just this week, Anna and Precious were settling in with me on the sofa for some commercial-free TV when in their snuggling, I got a beautiful, red scratch on my leg. It was then I decided we were having a paw-dicure night.

Anna didn't really mind her nail trim and polish change; she was happy to drool over McDreamy and McSteamy in last week's Grey's Anatomy. This week's color: OPI Poodle Pink. She was even content to sit and let it dry while we caught up with the girls on Wisteria Lane. We've come a long way since we had to heal her bleeding claws from the overgrown nails she had acquired before the good life. We're finally getting her nails to a healthy length and they're not peeling anymore. Plus, I think the Vitamin E oil on her pads has helped prevent any pavement burn from the summer heat.

Precious, on the other hand, was as determined to sneak out of my grasp when it came her turn for a pedicure. After a brief power struggle, she gave in to the primping. I suppose she expected an at-home job to be a long, drawn-out process; much unlike the nice, speedy job the girls at the salon do. She was right. We got the job done, though and she was happy to go back to pre-recorded prime time. Precious is lucky; the nails on her hind legs stay short from our nightly runs, but her front ones seem to grow at a rapid pace. She prefers her nails paw-natural and is much happier going a few extra weeks between nail appointments. As much as I'd love her not go through the agony of beauty treatments; I can only take so many scratches.

XOXO Jessica
