Party of Three
July 8, 2009 -
Some say three’s a crowd, but I think it’s a perfect mix. Hanging out with my dogs around the house, going for walks, taking them for outings at dog-friendly places is one of my favorite things to do. The chemistry is never quite right with me or the dogs if only one pup comes along. The idea stuck recently at the vet when we went in for the dogs’ yearly check-ups.
I usually only take one dog at a time to the vet, as I thought handling one diva at a time would be easier for the vet—and me. This time I made a run for it and took both to be seen together. It was the fastest, most painless and best visit to the vet we’ve ever had. Nobody squirmed to have their eyes looked at or attempted to escape a vaccination. It was amazing. Even the doctor commented on their composure.
This got me to thinking—like humans, dogs probably feel more comfortable in an otherwise stressful situation when they have their friend nearby. Anna used to be very independent and would relish in her alone time in her crate or on outings, but now she and Precious are joined at the hip and neither one likes to do anything without the other. This is true: the family that plays together stays together!
