Taking a daytrip with your dog could easily be one of the most fun and affordable ways to spend a Saturday afternoon. This weekend, we packed up our pups and headed for the high country for a fun-filled day of hiking in Flagstaff, AZ. We all enjoyed the change of scenery, cooler temperatures and exercise. The best part—it cost next to nothing!
Taking your pets along on weekend excursions can help you stay fit while saving money at the same time. The only monetary requirement for this adventure was a simple picnic lunch ($12) and a full gas tank ($20-$30). We parked at a popular tail-friendly trail (find one in your area at
dogfriendly.com), harnessed up the pups and started hiking. The dogs happily chased squirrels and left their mark on almost every pine tree in Flagstaff.
Since this was their first hike, we started small at only 2.5 miles. At the end we enjoyed our picnic and stopped to smell the pines and take a couple snap shots. We didn’t hear a peep from the pooped puppies the whole ride home! We had so much fun and I can’t think of a more rewarding way to spend a day—and only $30.
