The Joys of Toy Breed Dogs

We’re celebrating the joys of toys! Toy breed dogs, that is. I certainly have a share in this topic, seeing that both my fur-chindren are classified by the AKC as a Toy Breed Dog. Here is a list of my top 10 favorite things about being a Pet Parent to toy breed dogs:
- Small dogs = smaller yards and less yard work! My 13’ x 15’ patch of grass out back provides plenty of space for my boys to romp and play.
- Less mess to clean up: A messy dog is a messy dog, but messy dogs in smaller packages produce significantly less mess than their larger counterparts.
- Portability: I can choose to take my boys on airplanes and they can ride with me in the cabin. They come with me to outdoor malls and are even welcome at restaurants with pet-friendly patios. Plus, having a dog that weighs less than 25 lbs makes it a lot easier when renting a condo, apartment or house.
- On trips to PetSmart, both my boys fit in the cart—which is convenient and easy for us to pick up all the necessities we need.
- They require less food, so I can afford to buy them super premium food. They also produce less mess to clean up!
- Both of them can sleep in bed with me and I still have some leg room.
- Their toys last longer! This might be specific to my own dogs—but they rarely destroy any of their toys.
- The rawhide they chew is smaller and much more affordable.
- They can curl up in my lap for a nap—and I can get some shut eye, too!
- They get along with my cats—and even share toys!
What are some of your favorite things about toy dogs? Also, what are some of your favorite things about large dogs that a small dog just couldn’t offer? Share your thoughts and ideas!
