The Pack Grows (Temporarily)

May 27, 2009 -

All that talk about adoption and how rewarding (yet really difficult at the same time) the whole experience can be must have really gone to my head. I finally acted on a long-time goal I've had, one that I promised myself I'd make good on when I bought my newly-purchased house: that goal was to become a foster Pet Parent.

I started with the rescue that brought me the one and only Honey Pie. I'd kept in touch with her foster mom since adopting her and I knew the rescue, which didn't specialize in a single breed but rather took in a variety of "mixed up mutts" in need of homes, could use another foster home.

I found out that need was more dire than ever since the rescue had taken in some dogs from a puppy mill in another state. So I contacted the rescue's president, explained my situation for fostering and she was able to match me up with a pup she, in her many years of experience in rescue, felt would make for a great match.

Enter Pirelli: How could I resist that face? And his story was even more of a heartbreaker! You see, some Mixed Up Mutts Rescue volunteers were returning home from a trip to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary when they stopped for a short break on the side of the road. They heard the faint cries of the puppies and to everyone's surprise, there, in a pile of tires abandoned in the middle of the desert, were Pirelli, his brother and a cat!

All three joined the volunteers back to Phoenix, and immediately went to the vet for a visit. The cat was adopted by the family who rescued her and Pirelli's brother Bridgestone become part of a nice family who met him at a PetSmart adoption event.

Now it's Pirelli's turn to find a great home. But, until then, he's welcome as part of The Pack for however long that takes. Viva Pirelli!

I found her digging in a trash can, so she LOVES to eat everything. She's a talker. Likes to chase her sister around the house.
