Halloween in August

May 27, 2009 -

It may only be August in most people's world, but at my house, it's Halloween prep time. I felt completely disoriented when last year's festivities hit - I did some last minute shopping for a costume for Ollie to no avail. I was the goldie locks of every Halloween aisle in town - walking up and down, touching each costume and considering it. But none of them were just right for my boy.

I ended up half-heartedly investing in an ill-fitting Halloween-themed sweater and feeling instinctively like Ollie wasn't going to exactly stand out in the parade we were having at work. That hardly seemed acceptable for Ollie, a little dude who craves the spotlight whether he's modeling PetSmart.com's newest apparel line or wooing the ladies at the dog park. And, as predicted, he wasn't so much as a finalist in our workplace Halloween costume contest. He wasn't even really in costume I had to remind myself several times.

But it's 2008 and this year things have to be different! I'm determined to get Ollie a costume that's cute but comfortable. And for anyone feeling sorry for Wee Man right about now, I assure you, the only time he'll be in costume will be during the parade at work and maybe for a few minutes on Halloween to make any kids who knock on my door giggle.

With the addition of Honey Pie to the mix, I'll be doing double duty this year. Honey Pie demands equal treatment for Corgis worldwide - even when the treatment involves a less desirable activity than scarfing down treats. Of course I'll comply. That's what we Pet Parents do, right?

So, the wheels are turning and my mind is open. Now I just have a few questions to answer: What should these guys be for Halloween? Should I strive for maximum originality by making their costumes myself or buy them off the rack? Such are the pressing questions involving The Pack right now. Oh, to live their life!

I found her digging in a trash can, so she LOVES to eat everything. She's a talker. Likes to chase her sister around the house.
