I sat down right before New Year’s Eve to think about my 2009 resolution, and while the “to-do” list for the upcoming year is long, I couldn’t really come up with anything meaningful. Looking for some inspiration, I turned to Anna and asked about her resolution for the New Year. She looked at me with a confused look of wonder and said, “Mom, I don’t have to resolve to do anything. I’m already perfect.”
Of course. She is perfect…and so is Precious—but they still have room to grow. In 2009 I fully resolve to successfully potty train my adult dogs.
Precious is was really good about holding it. She could hold it for a week if she had to. Until late, she would only go potty outside. As she spends more and more time at Doggie Day Care, she’s learning it’s OK to go potty there. While this is great news (I don’t have to race to pick her up after work or visit her during lunch for a potty break), no good thing comes without a cost. Now that Precious learned it’s OK to go potty inside at the PetsHotel, she also thinks it’s OK to go potty inside at home, too. The kitchen floor tile is her new relief room. I’m thrilled. And Anna? She’s never really cared much for the whole potty training thing. Anna will go anywhere. As classy as she is; the girl has no shame. I hope Precious is an easier case.
Needless to say, I’ve gotten really good at cleaning potty out of the carpet. I hope I won’t need this dexterous skill by the end of the year. In the mean time, I’m cracking down on the rules and consulting a trainer. Wish us luck.
XOXO,
Jessica
